PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT ARTICLE I HAVE READ THIS YEAR...
It's all about the HPA Axis--Hypothalamus, Pituitary, and Adrenals. Learn how the health of this dynamic trio is not only vital to our well being, it also shapes the way we perceive our world. Understand how to support the HPA axis...by researcher and practitioner, Genita Petralli, HHP, NC, MH
"Addictive or addicted biochemistry is essentially the body's inability to adequately self-medicate with the natural stress hormone cortisol, and feel-good
neurotransmitters such as serotonin,
GABA, dopamine, enkephalins and endorphins
which predisposes an individual to
seek relief in external ways such as alcohol", [ sugar, caffeine, drugs, cutting... a myriad of addictive behaviors.]

The Acid Mantle
----Your Mantle of Protection----
The delicate acid balance maintained on your skin helps keep you healthy.
It is your first and one of your most critical lines of defense. Healthy skin is resistant to invasion from fungus, psoriasis, seborrhea, warts, premature aging, acne, and other forms of dermatitis.
To optimally maintain our largest organ, the skin, we must host healthy bacteria. In order to cultivate healthy bacteria on our skin, we must provide moisture, nutrients, (something nutritious for them to eat) and the pH environment must be compatible. So, we need sebum or natural oils and moisture to feed the good bacteria. Then the good bacteria will maintain a skin environment that is at a slightly acid level to ward off the harmful bacteria and allow the friendly acid-loving bacteria to live in peace.
Dryness is one of the skin’s worst enemies, because healthy skin needs moisture and food to host healthy bacteria. Mineral oils, petrolatum, oleates, acrylates, silicone, triethanolamine(TEA) and other synthetic oils and polymers commonly found in skin moisturizers, may trap moisture next to the skin, but they do not promote the growth of healthy bacteria. Over time, these skin preparations cause damage to healthy bacteria and wear down the skin’s natural defense system, which in turn, causes premature aging and other ailments of the skin.
The perfect oils for our skin are those that closely resemble the natural oils of our own skin and have the same pH or help promote a healthy pH. Organic virgin coconut oil, organic cocoa butter, shea butter, and organic virgin olive oil are known as “perfect oils”. They are used in various combinations, as base ingredients throughout the entire Healthy Mantle product line. They are known to have healing, nutritive and protective qualities. Coconut oil and cocoa butter protect against free radical damage from sun, pollution, and chlorine pool chemicals. They each provide a nutritious range of fatty acids for good bacteria to thrive. They are light, breathable, nutritious oils and are perfect for healthy skin pH. They soak in and feel good immediately. Your good bacteria will love them and you will maintain your beautiful acid mantle.
